It’s Meiko’s 8th anniversary! Happy wonderful 8 years Meiko, you may not be as popular as Miku but you were one of the first VOCALOIDS ever and we all love you. Maybe when your 10th rolls around, Crypton will do a little something….or sega…..but maybe we’d be asking for too much but hey, you deserve it!

It’s Miku’s 5th birthday/anniversary! Yes it has been now 5 years since Vocaloid 2 started up and Hatsune Miku was created/released. During those 5 years, the virtual diva has made several accomplishments- from games to even live concerts. Her popularity has skyrocketed so much that Miku is considered the Diva of Songs. Not a bad title and Miku is always proving to be true with the help of the producers who use her program! The 5 year anniversary extravaganza is off with a great early start from a Tokyo Bay Concert, Project Diva F release and much more!

Summary: Tooru is finally a high school student and get’s to go to the same school as her long time and only best friend Run (ru-ne). The only problem is; Run has made new friends and Tooru has the need to be somewhat protective around her only friend but makes friends with Run’s two new friends; Yuuko and Nagisa or Nagi for short. The four soon begin their life as high-schoolers with Tooru; a petite, silent, reserved and tending to be violent if someone tries to take her friend away, first year.

BEFORE REVIEW: I noticed loads of people mostly YURI shippers- assuming Tooru has feelings towards Run. This is really bugging me seeing that Tooru is just very protective about her only best friend whom she finds to be perfect at everything- it’s not like Sakaki’s fangirl from Azumanga Daioh who was actually having romantic dreams about said girl. Why do yuri fans always think something is going on if the anime consists of mostly girls -__-

Thorough Review: At first I was hesitant about seeing this anime due to the above but I realized it’s those annoying fan of yuri who ruin certain animes for me when they automatically start labeling some anime as Yuri when it isn’t However, after all of that- I watched A-Channel. The anime is like any average female friends going to high school together anime except we have little Tooru to change things up with her metal bat and trials when it comes to making friends and being a year behind her best friend Run who has tow new friends when she starts high school. In the first episode we see how energetic Tooru is when it comes to protecting her friend Run and how Tooru met Yuuko and Nagisa in a not so very great situation that is later to our relief a huge misunderstanding.

As any anime, this one takes place along the event of the 4-Koma paneled manga. We learn about how Tooru is with each of her friends and what the girls do during the school years. The anime is sweet and simple and can be cute and humorous whenever Yuuko is being by Tooru for having a better “figure” than her. Also like every school related anime- there are also your odd teachers. There is Kitou-sensei who is very energetic and passionate about school and school work. She write poetry whenever inspired and motivates students to work their hardest. The next teacher is the gym teacher, Kamate who is somewhat lazy when it comes to gym and class work and forgetful of students names.

The final teacher is actually the good old school nurse- well male nurse; Sato. Sato has a bit of a fascination when it comes to Run and girls foreheads- especially’s Run’s and Kamate’s. Sato also tends to have a friendly rivalry wit Kitou but the two are always teased about acting like a married couple or as if they are dating by Kamate. Moving back to the other main character aside from the teachers and Tooru- there is Run; Tooru’s best friend. Run is your average carefree and oblivious to any dangers girl who is always having a good time and will do some clumsy things that could put her in danger only to be helped out or rescued by her friends who sometimes worry about her klutziness.

Next is the “beauty” of the group- Yuuko. Yuuko will remind anyone of Mio if you watched K-ON. The two are considered beauties and have a fear of anything related to horror or scary. The only difference is that Mio doesn’t have a first year who is jealous of her and always attempting to intimidate her (Tooru). Yuuko is always trying to make friends with Tooru and is kind to her friends but can be intimidated easily or put into a fearful or uneasy state. She is one of Run’s friends in second year along with Nagisa whom she has been friends with either possibly before they met Run or when they meet Run in their first year.

Last of the four is Nagisa- your megane girl except she isn’t a true a megane girl seeing that in one of the episodes- Yuuko asks Nagi about her glasses in which she replies that they are “just for show” and then proceeds to pretend that she can see ghosts without them only to frighten Yuuko. However, it’s not really confirmed if Nagi does really need her glasses or not after that. Nagisa tends to tease Tooru in that older sibling type way and the two tend to enjoy bugging Yuuko or just getting her scared if need be for their own fun whenever Run isn’t around.

Aside from Run’s friends- Tooru also makes two new friends; Yutaka and Miho. Yutaka and Miho are also first years and in the same class as Tooru. The two are self proclaimed fans of Tooru because they find her cool and full of spirit. Although, Yutaka is a bit of an extremist when it comes to being a fan since she always wants to be around Tooru. Whereas Miho is fine just seeing Tooru every now and then but will stop Yutaka from bugging Tooru too much by giving her a 3 minute time period to be near Tooru which bugs Yutaka very much who tends to speak in third person around anyone and everyone.

The series is enjoyable and may be a liking to people who have seen Lucky Star, Azumanga Daioh and K-ON. A-Channel does have it’s similarities to the previously mentioned but has some different little touches that sets it a part.
